Your first connection
This walks through helping someone on another network: they share their screen, you control it. Both computers run Remora, and both point at the same server.
1. Point both apps at the server
On both computers, open Settings, enter your server under ID / relay server (for example relay.example.com:21116), and click Save changes. The status card at the bottom of the sidebar turns green and says Online.
2. Your partner shares their ID and password
Their Home page shows a Your ID (like 482 913 774) and a one-time password (like tamvgp). They send you both over the phone or chat. The copy buttons next to each make that easy.
Passwords aren't case-sensitive and surrounding spaces are ignored, since people read them off a screen. IDs can be typed with or without spaces.
3. You connect
- On your Home page, type the ID into Connect to a device and click Connect.
- Enter the password and click Connect again.
- Remora finds the best route and opens a session tab with their screen. The tab also shows up under Sessions in the sidebar.
If your partner turned on Ask before connecting, they get a prompt to accept or deny you first. It's denied automatically after 30 seconds.
The session toolbar
The toolbar floats at the top of the remote screen. It hides itself when you're not using it and slides back when you move the mouse near the top; the pin keeps it visible.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name and stats | Partner name, the route (direct, peer-to-peer or relayed), frame rate, bandwidth and latency |
| Display numbers | Switch between the partner's monitors (only shown if they have several) |
| Quality | Optimize speed, Balanced or Best quality (lossless) |
| Fit | Scale the screen to the window, or show it at actual size with scroll bars |
| View only | Watch without sending mouse or keyboard input |
| Clipboard | Turn two-way clipboard sync on or off |
| Keys | Lock screen, Windows/Super, Alt+Tab, Alt+F4, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, Print Screen |
| Send files | Pick files to send to the partner |
| Chat | Open the chat drawer |
| End | End the session |
Click the remote screen to give it keyboard focus (a thin outline appears); clicking outside, for example into the chat box, hands the keyboard back to you.
Unattended access
To connect later without your partner reading out a password, set a permanent password on their computer under Settings → Security. From then on their ID plus that password works whenever their PC is on and Remora is running. Remora doesn't start with Windows by itself yet; a shortcut in the Startup folder (Win+R, then shell:startup) does the job.
