v0.1 · open source · early preview

Remote desktop you can run yourself.

Remora is a self-hostable, end-to-end encrypted remote desktop app: an open-source alternative to TeamViewer, AnyDesk and RustDesk.

Everything you expect from TeamViewer

ID and password access, unattended access, file transfer and chat, without a vendor in the middle.

End-to-end encrypted
SPAKE2 password handshake and ChaCha20-Poly1305. The server never sees passwords or your screen.
Peer-to-peer
Connects straight through both routers with UDP hole punching and QUIC, and relays only when it has to.
Self-hosted
One small server binary handles IDs, NAT traversal and relaying. Run it anywhere.
Fast screen streaming
Only changed tiles are sent, as JPEG or lossless. Switch quality and monitors live.
Files, clipboard, chat
Send files both ways, sync the clipboard and chat with your partner during a session.
You stay in control
Accept prompts, view-only mode, live permissions and brute-force lockout on the host.

The fastest route wins

Like TeamViewer, Remora tries the cheapest path first.

1

LAN direct

Same network? Connect straight to the partner's local address.

2

Peer-to-peer

Different networks: punch through both NATs and talk QUIC directly.

3

Relay

Strict firewall? Fall back to the server's relay, still end-to-end encrypted.

Quick start

Build from source with Rust, then point both apps at your server.

bash
cargo run --release -p remora-server -- --bind 0.0.0.0:21116
